Last week started well with Newcomers Paul Evans and daughter Jade aged 10 for their first fly fishing experience after a few basics from Gary they soon had the hang of casting and caught their first rainbow from the lower lodge pool on an apps bloodworm. paul Barnfield from Hereford caught a 7lb 8oz. Rainbow with his size 16 pheasant tail nymph with a floating line and 4lb leader from the gin pool and released successfully, and Ron Jones from Cwmbran caught a lovely 5lb blue trout with a spider fly, sink tip line and 4lb leader. Hook Line and Sinker came for their regular fortnightly Fishing adventure,along with their carers they bagged up and took home 8 trout Rod Kirton one of the members of hook line and sinker caught 3 fish including a 4lb 7 oz rainbow which we have entered into this months Troutmasters competition and Jamie Farr who caught a lovely 3lb rainbow. This week also saw another week of family fishing days out, it's nice to see the younger anglers being encouraged to take up fly fishing, including Elizabeth Brunsdon who caught and landed with a little help from Paul Mortimer her first rainbow and what a beauty it was. On catch and kill this week were Anthony Clark who landed 3 nice rainbow and Clive Jones who also took home 3 from across all pools, Danny Stokes landed 2 while Emrys Jones took 6 all from the top pool mostly on a green daddy, Ron Baker from Buckinghamshire caught 3 rainbow fish to take home then went on to release 5 more. On catch and release and catching their bag limits were Carl Williams and Mick Smith , Hughie Wilson , Marc Creese, David Prosser, Fred Wood and Dave Glover. This week has been very hot and the fishing has been challenging but a hatch of ants created an opportunity for some of our anglers to catch with their imitation ant dry flies, other popular flies this week have been red and black Buzzers , green spiders, olive damsel nymphs and very small hares ear nymphs. Our opening times remain the same, everyday from 7.30 am till dusk, with the evening £6.00 ticket which starts at 5.30 pm proving to be very popular .
