Heavy rain last week livened up the fish in our lodge pools, the rain didn't prevent our anglers from fishing , and we had several fishermen catching their bag limit on catch and release and a good turn over of fish taken on catch and kill, John Davies from Gloucester took 7 nice rainbow weighing a total of 18lb 10oz on a variety of flies including Black daddies ,gold ribbed hare's ear, and egg fly, Alan Elking took 3 from the top pool on catch and kill, Rob Britten 2, Anthony Clark took 3 from the gin pool on a black daddy, Bill Hewitt took 4 , Tim May 6, Mick Fahy took 5 while his wife Jean caught 2 on her first ever fly fishing trip, Chris Griffiths took 1 then went on to release 9, changing his flies and tactics to suit as the day wore on including black and gold humungus, white mini cats whiskers and cdc olive emerger.
On Sunday we had a group of friends from Bournmouth who have an annual fishing trip to different fisheries around the country, with great competition between them, the boys had a great day and took 8 trout for their barbeque and released 12 more, mostly catching on green damsels,black daddies ,Cdc shuttlecock, ship mans buzzers and Kate McLaren hoppers.
Wayne Hulsen from Newport was thrilled with his 8lb 6oz rainbow caught from the lower lodgepool, on a floating line, 4lb leader with a cdc dry fly, Wayne was sight fishing in clear water targeting his big fish,we have entered this into Troutmasters competition ,the fish was released successfully .Our day ticket prices remain at £15.00 catch and release and £15.00 catch and kill which includes one fish then £5.00 per fish thereafter. The After work ticket has now come to an end. Our opening times are 7.30am till dusk (approx 6 pm) every day.
